We’ve issued a new Press Release today, visit http://www.ownafilmcompany.com/press-release-new-website to view it.
Our February newsletter also went out today. Yes we know it’s March, but it is an update of the February happenings on the site. If you haven’t received it, you can view the full newsletter online, but here’s an extract:
We’ve made it easier for people to register their interest. Previously the only way to let us know you were interested in becoming a paid member, when the time comes, was to register as a free member. Although that is still the best way becuase registered free members receive regular updates, invites to our events, have access to our forums, can vote in our polls and have other benefits, we’ve now made it possible to register your interest without actually registering on the website. We’ve added Google Friend Connect, so people can register their interest in becoming a paid member, and invite friends, using their Google, AIM, Yahoo or OpenID account.
We’ve created an iGoogle tab to make it easier for you to stay updated. When you add the tab to your iGoogle, you will have all our updates in one place. There are six boxes on the tab; latest posts to our homepage, latest articles in the updates section, latest blog posts, latest film news from our blog, latest film reviews from our blog and our latests Twitter updates. Try it now.

If you’ve been to this blog, or visited our website lately, you will know what we had a launch party for our new website, last Thursday. It’s a bit difficult to write up a launch party – it was a party – there were drinks and food and music and people – but luckily we have photos to do the write up for us.
The party did include an auction of film memorabilia, in aid of Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), registered charity number 1050845. We had planned on a silent auction, but as you can see from the photos, that didn’t really work, so we held an impromtu normal auction. Most of the items sold and the four that didn’t, are available for online auction now.
These photos were kindly taken by Tony Halford of Tony Halford Photography.

On Thursday we had another external meeting. This time it was with a mobile phone network. We’re still discussing details, but will hopefully be partnering with them for our upcoming short film competition. More details to follow, so watch this space and start getting your short films ready…

This week, we had our first external meeting since we started this blog. I met Robert Lewis, a Director, at Minibar on Friday 27th June, where Channel 4 presented 4IP, their “new investment fund for innovation.” He said he was interested in meeting up and getting to know more about OwnAFilmCompany.com and we eventually managed to find time to meet on Thursday.
It was an interesting meeting and he had some good suggestions, most of which I can’t blog about. Well we can’t post too much of our business and marketing plans, but I am going to mention two of his suggestions. The first that we post about external meetings in our blog, so I’m taking his advice and doing that right now.
The other was that we have a panal to judge the scripts. Our original plan was to check that the scripts could be made with £2.5m, but not do any quality control. In the interests of democracy, we were going to put all scripts up for the members vote.
Robert pointed out that we could end up with 100s of scripts come in and members won’t have time to read through all the entries, so they either won’t vote at all, or they will only read the first few and just vote on those, making it an unfair vote. He suggest we put together a panel of judges, to shortlist the best few scripts, then just put those up for the members vote.
What do you think? To launch this blog, we’re opening the script judging panel idea up for discussion.
Please add comments letting us know if you think we should have a panel of judges create a short list, or put all scripts up to the members vote. If you like the panel idea, who would you like to see on it?

This blog was set up by OwnAFilmCompany.com. The idea is to bring together all the best film or movie blogs and bloggers in one place. Please email blog@ownafilmcompany.com if you would like to add an rss feed of your blog, to this site, or become one of our blog writers.
OwnAFilmCompany.com was set up to help people get their first break in the Film Industry. Members own the company and vote on the film. Because the film productions are funded by the membership fee, we are under less commercial pressures than most film companies and can make films that may not be made otherwise. Visit OwnAFilmCompany.com to find out more and join.
